New Community Schools
Issue 5: February 2002
A Note from the Editors
This is now the second newsletter that we have edited and we'd like to start
with a big thank you for the feedback that we have received on the last issue
(No. 4). Of course not all the comments were complimentary. Some authorities
wanted to know why they were not represented in the work outlined in the last
edition. We explained that not all NCS teams had been able to respond in the
rather tight timescale - so this time we have had a terrific response from more
than 20 authorities!
The theme for this issue is 'Engaging the Community' and we have tried to select
from the responses that we have received a number of interesting and innovative
initiatives and activities that have taken place in different authorities. We
have also included some examples of joint staff and community training and training
specifically offered to members of local communities to help them to participate
in specific initiatives.
We haven't been able to use all the information provided and we apologise to
any of you who feel that your hard work has been summarised in a few lines.
Thanks also for photographs.
The theme for the next edition, in summer 2002, will be 'How to sustain the
Progress?', so we hope that we shall be able to use some of your comments on
sustainability in that issue, when we can look at 'life after the pilots'.
Again we shall be very happy to receive comments on this issue, positive or
otherwise, and we shall aim to take account of these comments in the next issue
- so let's hear from you!
