New Community Schools

Roll out of new community school approach

All councils and their partner agencies have now been invited to submit plans for rolling out the new community school approach in their areas, taking account of local circumstances and priorities. Funding of £30.6 million over the next 2 years to support roll out of the new community school approach across all schools was announced on 12 November. This new funding is in addition to any support being provided under the New Community Schools pilot programme and will, following scrutiny of proposals, be made available by specific grant to all local authorities in Scotland. Cathy Jamieson said:

"If anyone was in any doubt about our commitment to date I would hope that this new funding will reassure them of where we stand, and of our belief in the new community school concept. This is a wonderful opportunity for local authorities to prove that they are equally committed, and we look forward to receiving their plans for roll out.

The new community school concept is at the heart of our education policies. Much good work has already been achieved, and what we must do now is build on the firm foundations which have already been established."
