Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Equality
The Scottish Government firmly believes that there is no place in Scotland for prejudice or discrimination, and that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, age or disability.
We work with a wide range of organisations to promote equality of opportunity and inclusion for lesbian, gay. bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, including the 3 national LGBT organisations, Stonewall Scotland, LGBT Youth and Equality Network.
We also work closely with LGBT communities to develop an understanding of homophobia and facilitate consultation and engagement between the government and LGBT people to tackle discrimination and prejudice.
The Scottish Government recently announced a funding package for the LGBT sector of £1.7 million over 3 years 2008-11. This money will be used to commission a series of ten projects through the three national organisations which will help improve the lives of LGBT communities in Scotland, increase access to services, promote equality and celebrate the lives and achievements of LGBT Scots.
