Modernisation of the Scottish Fire Service

Fire fightersThe Scottish Government is committed to modernising the fire service in Scotland and introducing reforms that will lead to a service that focuses on reducing risk as well as responding to incidents, so that community safety is improved with few casualties and less loss of property. This vision has been shaped by two consultations and an independent review of the fire service (on a UK basis) during the course of the last five years.

In addition, a technical review of the future of fire and rescue controls rooms in Scotland was carried out by Mott MacDonald and a report issued in January 2004.
