Making your computer easier to use

A guide to making your computer easier to use.

Introduction

Computers are part of our daily lives - at home, school and work. Without the ability to use a computer, people who have sight problems, hearing, mobility and cognitive difficulties are more likely to be excluded from the opportunities that using computers can bring.

A lot of information already exists on how to adjust your computer to make it easier to use or more "accessible". However this information can sometimes be confusing and may recommend you buy equipment when the adjustments that you can make using the free software already loaded onto your computer may be all that is needed, and should be the first option you consider.

If you do not have access to a computer at home, you may wish to visit your local library or Learndirect Scotland centre. Staff at these venues can undertake an assessment of your needs and provide you with advice.

This guide provides links to impartial advice on the products and services that are available to adjust your computer.
