Some Examples
We know that you will have loads of ideas to make public services better. But just to get you thinking here are a few examples of where young people have come up with ideas to make things work better for them.
Throughout the country, young people have:
found that young people don't contact social workers. They set up a website to encourage people to ask directly for help, advice and information when they need it and on their own terms.
worked with their local council to develop a 'graffiti wall' on the Council's website to allow young people to post their views on any subject - anonymously if they so wish.
produced a book, in the form of a CD-Rom, about their experiences in looked after care. This provided a creative way for children to share their experiences, express their opinions and develop self confidence.
produced electronic CVs (with words, pictures and videos) with their guidance teachers to help with employment chances.
If you think about it for a little while you will find that the ideas will keep coming to you. Here's some more ideas:
Tell people about delays or cancellations on buses and trains by SMS service; 3G/ WAP phone announcements or electronic messages at bus stops.
Introduce an effective way of telling students and parents about school related issues.
Online or SMS system for making appointments to see your doctor;
Use text or online consultations to involve young people in the planning process for leisure centres, etc.
Think of the best ones, the ones that you think will really work and contact us.
