Scotland is among the largest sea fishing nations in Europe and the Government is an integral part of the UK team negotiating fishing opportunities with other countries.
The Scottish fleet is responsible for landing 66 per cent of the total UK volume of fish. The Government manages quota for fish stocks and controls the activities of fishing vessels and fishing effort (days spent at sea) in the North Sea, West of Scotland and Faroese waters, plus all inshore fisheries within the 12 mile territorial water limit.
