The Fisheries and Offshore Oil Consultative Group (FOOCG
)
The The Scottish Government Marine Directorate is responsible for providing the secretariat to the Fisheries and Offshore Oil Consultative Group (FOOCG). The Group, which held its 68th meeting in Edinburgh during October 2004, was set up by the Secretary of State for Scotland on behalf of the UK government in 1974 following the acceleration of the offshore industry.
The principal objective of the Group is to provide an opportunity for the fisheries and offshore oil and gas industries to meet, in order to exchange information on general matters and to keep under review, developments in connection with the exploitation of offshore oil and gas resources, with the object of fostering close relations between the two industries.
The Group draws together representatives from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF), the National Federation of Fishermen's Organisations (NFFO) and the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA). Government Departments concerned include the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Scottish Government Marine Directorate, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), Hydrographic Office and the Scottish Government Energy, Enterprise and Tourism Directorate.
