Scottish Executive policy for Community Learning and Development

"The Scottish Executive believes that Community Learning and Development (CLD) has an essential role in achieving our priorities of improving public services and promoting community regeneration, social inclusion, lifelong learning and active citizenship…We have placed our approach to CLD at the heart of our work on community planning."

( Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities, Scottish Executive Guidance for Community Learning and Development, January 2004, Ministerial Foreword)

"Who does what" in the Scottish Executive?

Learning Connections provides policy advice to Ministers on all matters relating to CLD, linking with colleagues in Communities Scotland and across the Scottish Executive with closely-related responsibilities.

"Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities"

Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities sets out "a long term framework for the promotion and development of CLD". It identifies national Priorities and emphasises that CLD resources should be targeted to ensure it can take in a key role in achieving social justice.

The CLD Training Agenda

Building the skills and capacity of CLD staff at all levels is vital if CLD is to rise to new challenges and deliver effectively on the agenda set out in WALT.

Learning Connections supported the work of a Short Life Task Group set up by Ministers to follow up key recommendations in Empowered to Practice - the future of community learning and development training in Scotland.

Learning Connections also supports the CeVe Committee to carry out endorsements of Community Education training courses, pending Ministers' decisions on the Short Life Task Group's report.
