Scotland has an abundant on- and offshore wind resource. The development of wind power in the UK has accelerated over the last few years as the technology becomes more competitive. UK suppliers are also becoming increasingly aware of the business opportunities presented by the renewable energy industry. Onshore wind turbine technology is set to become extensively deployed throughout the world.
Scotland also possesses potential for offshore wind development. One proposal is already being developed in the Solway Firth, and the Scottish Government is helping to fund the development of a demonstrator project in deep water in the Moray Firth.
