The UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age.

Organised by the Youth Sport Trust, these Games are part of the build up to London 2012. They seek to create an inspirational and motivational setting which encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport. They provide a four-day Games environment designed to replicate the feel of major event such as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

They will be hosted by a different city each year until the 2012 Olympic Games. The first UK School Games were staged in Glasgow in 2006 and included five sports: Athletics; Swimming; Gymnastics; Table Tennis; and Fencing, with disability events in Athletics and Swimming. The 2007 competition was held in Coventry where Badminton, Judo and volleyball were added to the programme. This year's event will be held in Bath and Bristol and the sports programme has been increased further to include a second team sport - hockey.

Further information on the Games can be found on the UK School Games website ( www.ukschoolgames.com).
