Widening Access to the Arts

The Scottish Government is fully committed to widening access to culture for all communities and individuals across Scotland. We plan to take this forward in partnership with those who have a major role to play. We shall look at ways we can assist local authorities in this endeavour. To start with, we are supporting the Cultural Pathfinder programme, and will commit to building on what we learn from that about bringing culture into the lives of more people.

Local authorities make a huge contribution to cultural delivery, and we will encourage them to build on this and to strive for continuous improvement and excellent outcomes for all the people of Scotland, in straightforward, practical ways, such as direct engagement with local communities. Our future cultural policy framework will be one that affirms the place of culture in this nation, and which acknowledges the important role played by all branches of culture and creative practitioners.
