Introduction

Policy Information and Guidance

The Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate (SGRPID) is continually striving to create a nation that provides the best in animal health and welfare. This means that our policies and legislation must be constantly updated when new issues, diseases and scientific knowledge come to the fore.

To take this forward in partnership with the Scottish people, consultations are carried out when new legislation is being drafted. Details of these can be viewed in the consultation section of this site, while ratified legislation can be viewed in the legislation section. Whilst most responses gathered during the consultation process comes from the stakeholder group, they are open to everyone.

In this Web section, we also provide information on policies and issues not accessible through the Animal Health or Animal Welfare sections of this site. Details of these can be viewed in the policy information section of this site, and includes:

  • Animal by-products
  • The Highlands & Islands veterinary service scheme
  • Land management programmes
  • Specified animal pathogens.
