The Animal Health and Welfare Strategy is a comprehensive ten year document, presenting us with an excellent opportunity to continually raise standards of animal health and welfare. It has been developed by the Scottish Executive, Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government in consultation with stakeholders as a strategy for Great Britain.
The strategy is aimed at developing a partnership approach to managing the impact of animal diseases and improving the welfare of animals kept by man, promoting the rural and wider economy, and protecting public health. It sets out clearly the principles and roles and responsibilities for taking things forward. Scotland is doing already doing well in a lot of areas, and the strategy seeks to identify areas where opportuntities exist to create further benefits.
It is accompanied by a Scottish Implementation Plan, which sets out the work being undertaken by Government and other stakeholders to deliver the strategy.
