Agriculture Policy Seminar - 29 January 2008

The Agriculture Policy Seminar was held on 29 January 2008 in Peebles Hydro Hotel. The purpose of the day was to stimulate discussion on three issues of importance to Scottish Agriculture: CAP Reform, profitable food production and climate change.

The morning session was hosted by John Kinnaird, Past President of NFU Scotland, and speakers included; Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment; Jim McLaren, President of NFU Scotland; Stuart Housden, Director of RSPB Scotland; Frank Gaskell, Head of International Affairs at Highlands and Islands Enterprise; and Allan Burns, Chairman of Scotland Food & Drink.

The afternoon session was hosted by Henry Graham, Chairman of the Climate Change and Agriculture Stakeholder Group and following a presentation by Andrew Moxey, Pareto Consulting, delegates were invited to participate in workshops to consider specific questions on climate change.

The day was concluded with comments from Richard Wakeford, Director General - Environment of the Scottish Government.
