ACTION 22

"The farming sector will be covered by a new Scottish wide Labour Market Unit - Future Skills Scotland which is being established by the Executive to help match skills with future needs of Scottish businesses."

Progress

Following on from the establishment of Futureskills Scotland, in conjunction with Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the Environmental and Land-based sector, Futureskills Scotland produced a profile report on the industry. The report is largely based on the findings of the Scottish Employers Skills Survey 2002 also produced by Futureskills Scotland which involved interviews with 8,500 workplaces across Scotland. The sector report details the number of workplaces in the sector and the number of jobs split by factors such as gender, areas of work and full-time/part-time positions. It also covers issues such as vacancies and skills gaps and shortages which are, in general, uncommon within the sector. Futureskills Scotland aims to continue to provide accurate, relevant information on Scotland's labour market and will continue its work within the sector.
