Action 17

Action 17

"The Executive is liaising with other UK Agriculture Departments and the European Commission to identify how the level of suckler cow production can be increased beyond current Scottish quota levels."

Progress

This Action is no longer applicable as the quota system no longer exists following the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform agreement. However, Scottish Ministers have taken steps to support the production of quality calves for beef production. Using the mechanism of the national envelope provision in the CAP reform agreement, the support will take the form of the Scottish Beef Calf Scheme (SBCS). The Scheme will be worth around £20 million to Scottish producers and will take effect from 1 January 2005, subject to Parliamentary approval.
