Action 6

Action 6

"The Executive will review with the industry the information it collects and publishes so that, in future, it gives farmers more help to improve their competitiveness."

Progress

There are clear overlaps with Action 1 and Action 3 (reviewing costs; benchmarking) but separate informal discussions with a variety of stakeholders have identified several minor changes to data collection and dissemination. Such discussions are now formalised through the Scottish Statistics User/Provider Consultation Network (Scotstat).

Some changes have already been implemented, for example the presentation of income figures in the annual Farm Incomes in Scotland (FIS) publication. Greater use of web-based dissemination is being considered for the Agricultural Census and the Farm Accounts Survey. Separately, a specific workstream is exploring the matching of abattoir data on carcass grade and weight with British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) data on breed and movement history, with the aim of improving understanding of routes to quality in the beef supply chain.
