Agriculture Strategy Next StepsThe Agriculture Strategy

The Scottish Executive published A Forward Strategy for Scottish Agriculture in June 2001. The Strategy identified 54 action points designed to help achieve its stated vision of "a prosperous farming industry, one of Scotland's success stories, which benefits all the people of Scotland".

The first Agriculture Strategy Implementation Group ( ASIG), chaired by the Minister for Environment and Rural Development, was then established to ensure progress on the various actions contained in the Strategy. The Group last met in March 2004. This website includes a progress report on the action points. The report was last updated in March 2005 and no further updates will be made beyond that date.

In March 2005 the Agriculture Structure Group ( ASG), was established to review and update the 2001 Strategy. The culmination of the Group's work, A Forward Strategy for Scottish Agriculture: Next Steps , was published on 3 March 2006. A new Agriculture Strategy Implementation Group (ASIG), was established in April 2006 to take forward work on the 22 Action points included in the Next Steps Strategy.
