5. NEXT STEPS

5.1 Consultees are now being invited to comment on the environmental effects of the Candidate National Developments, in the light of the environmental information presented here. As noted at the beginning of this report, there is no need for consultees to restate their views on the suitability of these or other projects for inclusion in the NPF as National Developments, as these views are already being analysed and used to inform the redrafting of the NPF. This consultation focuses only on the environmental considerations presented in this report.

5.2 The assessment has been undertaken making best use of the available environmental information. However, consultees may wish to highlight other sources of baseline evidence or references to further research or assessment work that may substantiate or conflict with the findings set out here. Beyond this, the Scottish Government would welcome further views from the public on the National Developments in the light of the environmental information set out here.

5.3 It is requested that consultees focus on the following key questions:

(a) Do you have any views on the environmental effects of the Candidate National Developments?
(b) Are there any further sources of environmental information which should be taken into account within the assessment?
(c) Do you have any further views on the suitability or otherwise of the Candidate National Developments for inclusion in the NPF, arising from their predicted environmental effects?

5.4 Consultees should submit written responses to the NPF Team: NPFTeam@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or addressed to National Planning Framework Team, Scottish Government, Directorate for the Built Environment, Area 2-H, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ by 31 October 2008.

5.5 After the consultation period has closed, the Scottish Government will review all of the responses, and finalise the proposed NPF. Thereafter, the NPF will be laid before the Scottish Parliament for a 60 day scrutiny period. Further details on this part of the process are provided on the NPF website: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Built-Environment/planning/National-Planning-Policy/themes/npf
