10 SECURING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE

The Ayrshire Area Business Plan 2007/08 indicated a commitment to continue involvement with local community groups, for example, Multi Agency Racial Incidents Monitoring ( MARIM); Community Safety; Community Partnerships; Child Protection Committee; Ayrshire Race Equality Partnership; etc. Representatives from the Ayrshire Area attend such meetings along with representatives from other community and partner groups.

The Area and District Fiscals also liaise with local MSPs and Councillors throughout the year.

A list of meetings held with groups such as those stated above were provided. It detailed representatives and the frequency of meetings.

Staff also have an opportunity each year to man the Fiscal Service stall at the Court Open Day. This is advertised in the local press, West FM, in local coffee shops etc. They also participate in recruitment fairs.

The Area is also involved in the annual 'Big World Event'. This is an interactive safety initiative run for all sixth year pupils across Ayrshire. The event aims to raise awareness of the dangers young people may face when they leave school, for example, dangers relating to alcohol, drugs, racial abuse, domestic violence, etc. The event is co-ordinated by Strathclyde Police and has representatives from the Fiscal Service, Ayrshire and Arran NHS, North Ayrshire Council, Scottish Ambulance Service, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, and many other partners.

The District Fiscal in Kilmarnock along with a Sheriff, Sheriff Clerk, Reporter and North Ayrshire Council speak to young persons involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

The Office Manager in Kilmarnock co-ordinates work experience placements which involves arranging a 2-day programme including a look at various types of work in the office and a trip to the court if possible.
