1. Introduction

This summary provides the latest information on and key trends in local authority housing income and expenditure in Scotland. It covers the period 1997-98 up to local authorities' budgeted estimates for 2008-09. Detailed tables at Scotland and local authority level can be accessed through the Housing Statistics for Scotland web pages at:

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Housing-Regeneration/HSfS

The tables provide information on income and expenditure on councils' housing revenue accounts. Housing Revenue Accounts record mainly income from and spending on council houses, but also cover related income and spending charged by councils to the account. Over the period of this report 6 councils transferred their housing stock to the housing association sector, the largest of these being Glasgow from 2003-04 1. These transfers affect comparisons over time.
