Report on source of bird flu
16/02/2007
Defra has today published its Interim Epidemiological Report into the likely source of the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Suffolk.
The Interim Report concludes that the 'currently most plausible' route of transmission is associated with the importation of poultry products via Hungary.
In recognition of the clarification of the epidemiological situation, the Executive has today reintroduced the general licence for bird gatherings, which was suspended on February 3 as a precautionary measure.
Poultry-keepers are reminded of the importance of good biosecurity and vigilance for signs of disease. Any suspicion of disease should be reported to the State Veterinary Service.
The General Licence on Bird Gatherings allows these events to occur subject to seven days prior notification to the State Veterinary Service and observance of good biosecurity.
Details on the General Licence and association conditions.
