Know The Score Directory of Services
28/11/2003
A guide on drugs services for drugs workers, and people
affected by problem drug use in the family or community, is
being distributed across Scotland from today.
The Know the Score Directory of Services contains a
comprehensive list of national and local organisations in
Scotland dealing with drugs issues. It was compiled by the
Scottish Drugs Forum in collaboration with the Scottish
Executive and updates the first Directory published last
year.
Welcoming distribution, Deputy Justice Minister Hugh
Henry said:
"The problems associated with drug misuse - and the
reasons behind it - are complex. But that doesn't mean
that access to advice and support should be too.
"The Directory has already proved to be a valuable
resource for the drugs field, providing a list of service
providers right across Scotland - improving linkages and
encouraging partnership working. This updated version will
ensure that the most up to date information is available to
those who provide the advice and support that users need to
get off drugs and lead healthier lifestyles.
"The Executive is putting record resources into
developing new and improved drug treatment services.
Working with service providers, I firmly believe we in a
better position to tackle the drugs problem now than we
have been at any time in the recent past - dealing with the
problems that drugs bring to the lives of individuals and
communities and helping deliver a safer, stronger
Scotland."
Dave Liddell, Director of the Scottish Drugs Forum,
said:
"It is crucial to get help for problem drug use as early
as possible but many people and communities seeking aid
don't know where to turn. This resource has an important
role to play in ensuring people have information on where
to get the right type of help at the earliest
opportunity."
The Directory is being widely circulated around the
drugs field in Scotland, and to other organisations with an
interest. The publication will also be available on the
Know the Score website

All 22 Drug Action Teams in Scotland were consulted and
given the opportunity to contibute to the Directory.
The Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF), which compiled the
Directory, is core funded by the Executive, and is an
"umbrella" organisation representing voluntary bodies,
community groups and drug service users. Membership of the
SDF is open to any group working in the drugs field.
