The Scottish Government's Cabinet met in Inverness on August 5, 2008 - the second of four meetings which are being held outside Edinburgh this summer.
The Cabinet gathered in the same room where Lloyd George held his Cabinet on September 7, 1921, resulting in the 'Inverness Formula' which created the Irish Free State. It remains the only Cabinet meeting of the UK Government to be held outside London.
The Scottish Cabinet is going round the country during July and August to give local communities a greater opportunity to speak directly to Ministers about issues of local and national importance.
In addition to Tuesday's formal Cabinet meeting, First Minister Alex Salmond visited the new visitors centre at Culloden Battlefield and then hosted a Good Causes reception on the evening of August 4 to celebrate the work of local social, charitable and voluntary organisations.
A discussion event on the Government's National Conversation took place after the Cabinet meeting involving the FM, Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers, members of the public and representatives from local civic organisations.
Other Ministerial visits included the Maggie's Highland Centre, Inverness and the Connage Highland Dairy at Ardersier.
Ahead of the visit to Inverness, the FM said:
"The first, historic meeting of the Scottish Government's Cabinet in Dumfries was a huge success and a great start to our programme of Cabinet meetings and events outside of Edinburgh this summer.
"Next week's meeting will be held in the very room where Lloyd George summoned an emergency Cabinet in 1921.
"The Scottish Government's Cabinet is meeting in Inverness for the sole reason of taking Government closer to the people and taking every opportunity we can to maintain our dialogue with the people we represent and hearing about the local and national issues which are important to them.
"We have a full two-day programme of visits and events around the Cabinets to allow us to meet and engage with as many people as possible. Ministers and I are looking forward to meeting people the people of Inverness and what I have no doubt will be a very productive visit to the area."
